– Part of the historic Bearsville Center, The Bear has an important history, having been the restaurant of choice for Bearsville Studios, one of the top 4 recording studios in the world. During those times, many international stars such as David Bowie, Bryan Ferry, and The Band would eat here regularly.

What This Role Is

– You will be responsible for taking orders and serving food and beverages to guests. You will play an essential role in guest satisfaction, checking on customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals, and where necessary, you will be taking action to correct any problems.

– Your role encompasses setting up the dining room, setting tables, clearing tables, pouring water, running food, working with expediters, resetting the dining room, and polishing glassware. This position must possess strong communication skills, the ability to mentally and physically multi-task, and must be able to remain calm under pressure.

– You are a vital member of the team, working to drive service each day and inspire team members to work together and hold one another accountable. You must display warmth and hospitality while supporting every member of the team, plus perform all Front of House duties and responsibilities expertly and efficiently. The role could also include administrative work, opening or closing duties, or stepping in to needed roles in the restaurant as business demands.

What you will do

– Maintain efficiency and grace with a sense of urgency throughout service.
– Use strong communication and listening skills to effectively deliver accurate messaging to both guests and all teammates.
– Have a full understanding of all menu items and how each is properly served.
– Acknowledge and positively engage all guests and both meet and manage their expectations.
– Seek opportunities to inform guests about all additional offerings at the restaurant.
– Carry yourself with a warm, welcoming demeanor when interacting with guests and co-workers.
– Derive pleasure from providing hospitality and exhibit excellent emotional self-awareness under pressure while maintaining a warm presence.
– Possess an understanding of proper steps of service and engage in table maintenance and resetting with efficiency, speed, and grace.
– Maintain the high standards of cleanliness and proper appearance throughout all areas of the restaurant.
– Ensure that the kitchen pass is stocked, organized, and all supplies are accessible throughout service.
– Communicate effectively with all members of the kitchen and service teams at all times.

What we need from you:

– 3+ years in a guest-facing restaurant role
– Ability to walk or stand for long periods of time
– Ability to balance & carry multiple plates, glass racks and or/glasses, and lift objects up to 30 lbs.
– English fluency and additional languages preferred, but not required
